About Me
Susan grew up on a horse farm in Mid-Michigan. While raising her children she pursued a BFA from Eastern Michigan University, graduating in 2002.
She taught watercolor and pastels at venues in Ann Arbor including the Ann Arbor Art Center and led Family Art Day at University of Michigan Museum of Art. Her artistic mediums have included watercolor, oil and acrylic painting, pastels, collage, and installation work.
Susan is a believes that volunteerism enriches one’s life and creativity makes for a great meeting of the minds. She volunteered as a docent for many years at UM Museum of Art. She has participated in numerous voluntourism trips; Her favorite being the creation of a watercolor book with young Monks in Nepal.
Daily Painting
Covid collapsed the art practice of many artists. Thanks to online meetings with my art pals in Chelsea Painters, I was able to quickly get art to the forefront of my mind. I took the time to paint and experiment and finally found myself doing a Daily Painting Practice. I settled on flowers as a topic and went to work (so nice to have fresh flowers around consistently in Michigan’s winter).
Other Art
I also enjoy creating interiors and landscapes. Flattened space is a natural viewpoint for me, so I chose to expand on that with wonky little interiors. Of course, Michigan farmlands and forests are deeply embedded in my soul, so they always call out to me to be painted.
Social Art
Visual expression is a lucky side effect of being an art maker. I’ve had the opportunity and desire to create several works that have been very meaningful to me. They express how I feel in a personal way.
